    Old Hawaiian Island Style Ambiance

The Wild Ginger Inn Hotel & Hostel has an old fashion country atmosphere that reflects its era. Originally, the building was a 1920's sugar cane plantation workers house. In the 1950's it was converted into an Inn with 27 private bedrooms with baths. In keeping with the original look and feel, you'll experience the Hawaiian laid back, simple living style with a relaxing ocean view. Although we have not completely updated to join the 21st century, some modern day comforts have been provided in a few upgraded rooms such as a cable TV, mini refrigerator, and microwave.

Because the property is one block up from the ocean and slants uphill, the nearby ocean breeze provides a natural cooling effect at the inn. The building is positioned to catch the trade winds. Hilo, Hawaii is the windward side of the island and there is nothing to block the breeze except trees. Our grounds are tropical with bamboo and banana trees shading the building. There is no air conditioning here, but each room has a ceiling fan and cross ventilation.
